My first own thread on here. Woken up and still in :(
by Gefangene ini have been around in this forum a lot but haven't written much yet.. also i had a more or less rude awakening when i realized that the religion i grew up with, the religion i sacrificed a lot for and considered to be the 'truth' is nothing but mere bs.
it's quite a brick to digest.. my parents both are jws, elder and pioneer.
very good people but also very brainwashed.

Jesus' parousia started in 1975, Governing Body selected as Faithful and Discreet Slave and Evil Slave dealt with by 1980, and Armageddon arrives in 2015?
by JWB injesus' parousia started in 1975, governing body selected as faithful and discreet slave and evil slave dealt with by 1980, armageddon arrives in 2015?.
it seems to me that some new light needs to be generated if the governing body (gb) of jws is to be considered as the faithful and discreet slave (fds).. .
(a) gb needs to be around as an entity when selected by jesus during his parousia.

I was thinking along the same line. In orded for them get the troops motivated, they need to reset the endtime clock. Sure they would take some losses but it also may energize those apathic jws that are true believers

Snares of the Devil - Questioning the motives of those who pioneer
by Quarterback inthe wt for today, can't remember exactly what paragraph, stated the dangers of the tongue.
it went further to mention that we wouldn't want to question the motives of a sister who was appointed in the congregation as a pioneer.
there was even a picture to add emphasis.. who on earth questions that?

Here's the thing that always gets me. We must have spent 5 minutes talking about that stupid picture, maybe more. But, when they read a scripture, there is maybe one brief comment. They really do treat the WT articles as "inspired". If I were a visitor, I think I'd be appalled at the amount of time spent discussing some picture in a mag as if there was some important message being sent.

Another doozie from DO Brown Payne about "many JW's compromising their neutrality" and voting for Obama
by oppostate inbro do brown payne told the audience of today's sa day at natick mass.
that "many brothers compromised their neutrality by voting in 2008".
he followed that by asking "and what has this president done for you?

A few years ago, our CO (white) also mentioned this during one of his parts. He said that individuals were "disciplined" and that some elders and MS were removed as a result. He also said that there were several that went to the inauguration ceremony. He said that when he confronted some of those elders, they responded that it was "a black thing, you wouldn't understand". His response was "no, its a netruality thing, you don't understand". I was surprised that some admitted to voting, otherwise I'm not sure how you'd get caught.
I really don't understand why a JW couldn't go watch the inauguration. I mean, I watch most of them on TV. I think that's one of the things that makes the US a great place to live. In some countries, the transfer of power isn't nearly as smooth and I've always thought it was great to see the outgoing president shake the incoming presidents hand and step back.

Clearly 1914 is a joke but that is where they get their power structure from. Without that date, they still wouldn't have their "appointment" and therefore no authority as the FDS. The only thing they could possibly do is change the date from 1914 to sometime later but in the past. At least no later than whenever the GB structure came into exsistance back in the 70s.
I'm sure they'd love to move the date and they moved it once in their past from 1874 to 1914 so I'm sure they could do it again. But, the risk they run is having a ton of people leave.
Welcome to the board!! Look forward to your comments.

At least they can warn parents when a"predator" as definded by the branch is in the congo. An improvement in my opinion but still not enough. And why can those that have dond such horrible things still be used in leadership positions? makes no sense.

This must be true because nothing else fits
by biometrics inso elder x came over the other day to convince me about why jehovah's witnesses have 1914 correct.
i wrote about this some time ago, but the elder never returned.
he caught me off-guard, and unprepared.. he went through the reasoning book (p95), and pointed out all the reaons (day for a year, daniel, 360 days, 2520 ...).

Thing is, there was a day that I would have said the same thing. It has to be true because nothing else fits.
And, I think that once a person is willing to take an honest look at the religion, it falls apart within a half hour.

BOC - they're really bringing back all missionaries? Are you sure? Seems like a huge expense. How many are we talking about? If they're bringing them back, I could certainly see them getting laid off or "reassigned". But, why bother. Just send them a letter. I mean, it's not like the WTS has a heart. I would imagine that some of those missionaries would still be needed in the various countries since the men get used adminstratively.
Oh well, I guess we'll find out Sat evening once the word starts to get leaked.

Is it appropriate to describe eating Lobster Bisque as eating?
by Theocratic Sedition inthe cafeteria had lobster bisque and wedding soup today, and i figured i'd try something new considering i love seafood.
it was tasty, don't get me wrong, but there was nothing in it.
what's the point of eating something if it's similar to drinking tea?

Also, finish with some Sherry!
Miz, don't order stuff like that from a cafeteria!! Stick with what they're good at.
